Pedestrianization Piazza Anco Marzio

Ostia, 2004 - 2006

Pedestrianization and redevelopment of the area including Piazza Anco Marzio, Viale dei Misenati, Via Lucio Coilio and Via della Stazione Vecchia. The urban redevelopment of the square and the adjacent areas has as its objective a renewed usability of the public space overlooking the Promenade, in order to redefine it as a meeting place and space of relationship.

At the center of the pedestrian area, at the confluence of the three streets with Piazza Anco Marzio, a rectangular space is defined for multifunctional use. Urban accessibility, understood as the full use of spaces, involves particular attention in the placement of all the elements of signaling and urban furniture, in order to ensure full accessibility to the individual.

In the design of the routes, in order to limit obstacles to the use of disabled people, tactile paths have been positioned for safe access to a controlled practicability. The project of the Gardens of Piazza Anco Marzio, in agreement with the organs of protection, provides for the restoration of the original design, preserving the existing plantings and inserting a network of pedestrian crossing paths.
