Restoration of Villa Salviati
Plan of restoration and functional adaptation of the state property complex of important historical-interestartistic called Villa Salviati site in the City of Florence assigned by the Italian Government to the European University Institute and intended for the Historical Archives of the European Union and the departmental and administrative activities of the Institute. The project of restoration of the complex of Villa Salviati had a dual objective, that is to safeguard the architectural heritage, valuable evidence in the panorama of Renaissance Tuscan villas, and make it functional to the new use, all in full respect of the historical palimpsest.
Highlight the architectural, historical and artistic characteristics and at the same time intervene from the structural and plant engineering point of view through a rigorous activity within the so-called "integrated design". The choice of the rooms available for the various functions has therefore been oriented so that the new uses do not require significant interventions of a static order and do not alter the typological character of the ancient building with its historical-artistic values. It was decided to mediate between two needs conservation and functionality that, apparently distant to a superficial approach, can coexist through the progressive belief that the renunciations to limited functional needs are amply rewarded by the use of places that, Beyond their intrinsic value, they represent a valuable cultural testimony.
The need of the I.U.E is to give a new seat to the Historical Archives of the European Community and host two departments and administrative offices of the I.U E., also in consideration of the entry of new States into the European Union.
